Hello Yellow

Actually it's more like goodbye yellow as I just dyed my golden locks a dark auburn/ brown. So far, the only downside to my new dye job is that I can't wear yellow as easily as I used to. Lucky for me, a yellow skirt we had for sale on Etsy didn't sell and the little number is now mine for the keeping (I was secretly hoping it wouldn't sell as I wanted it for summer). Tip: if you love a colour but it's not flattering on you, wear it away from your face. Skirts, shoes or even your toenail polish are great ways to wear colours that aren't your best.

Yellow can be a hard colour to wear, but there is a flattering shade for almost everyone, whether it be marigold, mango or mustard.

Here's one of my favourite outfits from a movie. It's Doris Day in The Glass Bottom Boat. The movie isn't great, but this outfit is amazing. If anyone has access to an abundance of yellow suede and is a milliner, seamstress and cobbler, please call me. I would pay BIG bucks for a replica of this outfit.

Here are some lovely yellow things in the shop...

Mustard High-waisted Shorts

Lemon Chiffon Floor-length Goddess Gown

Jonquil Striped Blouse

Buttercup Shirtdress

For the love of Patti

Reading this book by Patti Smith about her life with Robert Mapplethorpe made me not only appreciate NYC all over again (though hardly any of the places mentioned exist anymore sadly) but also what a very cool and totally self-styled woman this is! Am pulling out all my old fave ripped vintage t-shirts and loose pants and going all 'Patti' this weekend. Amazing life, wonderful book and some pretty great music thrown in too, thanks Patti.

Perfect Pairings: PB&J, Axl and Cutoffs, Jerry and George

I love a good food and wine pairing, but my matching knowledge isn't much more extensive than red with meats, white with seafood. OK it's a little better than that, but I generally leave it to the man. Pairing outfits with occasions or matching shoes with a dress? Now you are talking.

So this week I was inspired to do a little international cooking and thought I would document my adventures and pair a little outfit with it.

Make this again Sam

Meal: Moroccan Spiced Tilapia with mango and cilantro served with Currant and Vegetable Cous Cous.

Outfit: Obviously anything inspired by Casablanca or just a ridiculously embellished kaftan and giant gold jewelry.

Some inspiration from Etsy (not meant to be worn all together)

Kaftan

Gold Earrings

Necklace

Clutch and Change Purse

Una Cerveza Por Favor

Meal: Baja Prawn Tacos with avocado cream and shredded cabbage and my version of Tacos Al Pastor.

Outfit: Anything inspired by The Night of the Iguana or an embroidered top or dress with a wood beaded necklace and a tooled leather bag.

Some inspiration from Etsy (not meant to be worn all together)

Embroidered Jumpsuit

Fiesta Shoes

Tooled Leather Clutch

I need to do some Italian cooking next week just so I can find vintage Gucci things.

Hitting the Hamptons

Heading out to the Hamptons for a visit with a friend proved even better when the yard sales were also hit! So much more affordable than one would think (though there were $2,000 rugs). Favourite finds were a Victorian lace dress for $7 and a quilted cowboy cushion for $3! Great things for sale; canoes, dressers, furs, books galore, paintings.....Now I would like to have a yard sale, but first better start with getting a yard. BBQ kept up the hunting energy...
